Siuna mural: Conserving Environment
In 2007, we created two murals! We split up into two groups and each group had their own partner from Siuna.
One group worked with the Fransican High School about environmental concerns in the town of Siuna, which is a gold mining area that pollutes the water. So, as we were building latrines, we also got to express our own concerns about the health of this community. Do we know where gold comes from? Do we know the river is affected by the mining? Our mural asks these questions and asking everyone to preserve our natural resources.
In this project, we befriended a Nicaraguan muralist and child at heart, Ismael, aka "Chino."
